What is Water Hardness?

Water hardness is primarily caused by calcium and magnesium ions dissolved in water. These minerals are picked up as water percolates through deposits of limestone, chalk, or gypsum. While hard water isn't a health risk, it can cause scaling in pipes, reduce soap effectiveness, and leave deposits on fixtures.

Common Sources

Limestone, dolomite, gypsum deposits, chalk, marble
